It was during my time as a school advisor in Volos that I had the distinct honor of hosting a truly memorable event: a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's passing. What made this occasion even more special was the presence and contribution of two remarkable individuals: Luke Prodromou and David Gibson. Luke, the esteemed ELT writer, actor, teacher, and teacher trainer, graced us with his talent and passion, alongside David, making the anniversary truly unforgettable.
I remember feeling deeply grateful that someone of Luke's stature, with his significant impact on the field of English language teaching, would take the time to be part of this event in Volos. His work, evident in his insightful coursebooks and teacher training, always emphasized engaging students and fostering a love for language and literature. Seeing his passion for performance, particularly his willingness to honor Shakespeare in this way, was truly inspiring. He had a unique ability to bring learning to life, often incorporating theatrical elements into his teaching and presentations.
Luke Prodromou's contributions to ELT were immense. He challenged conventional approaches and encouraged educators to think critically about their practice, always with a focus on the learner's experience and well-being. His dedication to the profession and his ability to connect with people were truly admirable.
Remembering that special day in Volos, I am filled with gratitude for Luke's generosity and the vibrant spirit he brought to everything he did. His passing is a significant loss to the ELT community, but his influence will undoubtedly continue to inspire educators for years to come.
